The Community Relations Office (CRO) is dedicated to providing police services, which
promote community, government, and police partnerships, and
emphasize positive interaction with all segments of the community.
The CRO utilizes a proactive approach to crime prevention,
crime reduction, and problem solving, complimenting the efforts of
the Rahway Police Department’s Patrol Division, focusing on
improving the Quality of Life of the citizens of Rahway.
The CRO maintains partnerships with various community
organizations providing an essential link between the Police
Department and the Community. The CRO, in partnership with the
Rahway Downtown Partnership, addresses the concerns of business
owners, commuters, and patrons of the downtown district. CRO
Officer and NJ Transit Police utilize a Police Sub-Station located
on the northbound platform in the waiting room area. Periodically,
informational flyers are provided to commuters addressing matters of
personal safety and crime prevention, and occasionally notices are
posted requesting assistance from commuters regarding wanted persons
or current investigations. The exchange of information and positive
relationship with the commuters is a great asset to the Rahway
Police Department and the Community.
The CRO formed a partnership with the Rahway Housing Authority,
which facilitated the formulation of a Resident Patrol at the Glenndening/Kennedy/Scott Housing Complex. This partnership resulted
in opened communication between the Police Department and residents
and led to marked improvement in Quality of Life.
The CRO formed a partnership with the Union County Arts Center
and regularly assists the Arts Center with security and crowd
control during events throughout their season. The success of this
partnership is very evident to all those who attend the Mayor’s
Concert Series, which is a weekly event held during the month of
August.
The CRO also has forged a strong
relationship with the Rahway Center Partnership. The RCP actively
strives to create a downtown that serves residents, workers,
commuters and shoppers. The CRO has designated one person to
serve as the Liaison Officer to the Rahway Center Partnership. This
officer attends several RCP organizational meetings every month so
that the Police Department can better serve the needs of the
community.
The CRO has an ongoing partnership with the Rahway School
System. The CRO works closely with administrators from the High
School and Intermediate School to address mutual concerns and
exchange information regarding youth in our community. The Community
Relations Officer participates weekly in the "Rolling Readers
Program", where she reads books to and interacts with elementary
school students.
Throughout the year the CRO works with various community
organizations to assist them with the planning and successful
implementation of their events. Whether the event is a parade, block
party, sports event, or community celebration, the CRO is on
hand to meet the needs of the community.
