“Police and Youth
Working Together”
The Rahway Police Explorers Post
#2031 is an organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
The Explorers learn and experience different aspects of law enforcement.
They have no law enforcement authority, however, they often augment the
Rahway Police Department by assisting with traffic control and other
community related functions.
The Explorers consist of youths between the ages of 14-21 and many of them
have a desire to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Ride Along Program: After completing a probationary period, members
are allowed to ride on patrol with members of the Rahway Police Department.
This provides first hand experience to Explorers as to what Police work is
all about.
Training: Includes guest speakers from the department or outside
agencies train the members. Topics such as CPR, First Aid, Criminal
Investigation, and Fingerprinting are all part of many training sessions.
Training sessions are announced in advance, but do not follow a set
schedule.
Community Service: Explorers provide a broad spectrum of services to
the Rahway Police Department’s Community. Such services in the past included
crowd control during holiday events such as the annual Christmas Tree
Lighting, the Memorial Day Parade, and the Mayor’s Annual Concert Series.
