TWO-WAY TRAFFIC COMING TO DOWNTOWN RAHWAY

As you may have noticed the City of Rahway’s downtown area is undergoing some major improvements. One of the anticipated benefits will be two-way traffic on Irving Street, as well as Main Street. These two streets have been one-way streets for many years. They are now scheduled to change on or around May 15, 2008, to accommodate two-way traffic.
You will notice some other streets changing their current patterns before the two-way traffic will take effect on Irving Street and Main Street. This gradual increase is necessary to achieve the goal of two-way traffic in order to better serve the downtown area. The streets scheduled to change their pattern are as follows:

  • Coach Street – reverse direction of current one-way

  • Poplar Street – change from two-way traffic to one-way traffic (Westbound)

  • East Cherry Street – reverse direction of current one-way

We realize this is a major change for motorists who frequent our downtown. We are asking that you stay alert for changes in the traffic pattern during your visits. We apologize for any inconvenience and will continue to work to make this transition to two-way traffic as smooth as possible.
Please contact Sgt. Frank D’Errico of the Rahway Police Department Traffic Bureau at 732-827-2073 with any questions or concerns.
